When we are working in an unfamiliar culture where we do not feel comfortable about the behavioural norms, we can find that we adapt in ways which feel inauthentic. We do not feel that we are being ourselves. We don’t express our personality in a confident way as we would normally do in our own culture and native language.
On the one hand we wish to respect multicultural differences, on the other we might not be fully in tune with the behaviour that these differences demand from us.
In our coaching sessions we explore our individual values and the role these play in determining our emotional response and behaviour in unfamiliar situations. We support our clients in reframing the context in which they find themselves. We explore with them how they can still “be themselves” and at the same time work effectively in an unfamiliar environment.
